I’m sure you get plenty of “suggestions” regarding noise in the library. I understand it is a difficult issue. I do have one suggestion that might help in a small way, which would be to perhaps place signs in the group study rooms that let the room users know that the rooms are not soundproof. I think that students using the workspaces directly adjacent to the group rooms would be appreciative of it, as would the grad students in the graduate study rooms adjoining the group rooms. There seems to be an illusion that the rooms are sealed off from the rest of the library, and so the groups frequently get quite raucous. Thank you for your time, and have a lovely day.
Thank you very much for your suggestion. We appreciate your concerns and we understand that there is often a lot of noise in the library. The Library has a new “Working Group on Noise” which is actively working on this issue. One problem is that there is not a lot of space in the library for so many students. Further, some students want quiet and some want to work in groups.
Your signage suggestion is a good one, and I have passed it on to the Working Group on Noise.
