Construction odours at Vanier Library

The third floor of Vanier Library smells of gas in the back (by book rows SD 1- SK 152).

Thank you for your comment.

Roofing work is currently taking  place (as of Monday, April 18, 2016) on the south-west corner of the VE building.  Usually, work is done for the day by 3 or 3:30 PM. Slight tar-like odours might be noticed inside the building, but no special precaution need take place as the product is safe.  The project should be done in three weeks or less, depending on weather.

Ventilation on LB3

Would like to let you know about… Newly renovated 3rd floor computer rooms… It feels suffocating in the room, seems like no fresh air circulating, like a ventilation installed?
And when you open the door to go in, you can smell smelly smells, suffocating smells!
Not pleasant at all and the more you stay in there, really feeling not well, like weakness, starting a headache, hard to breath… So I left the computer room. Also, tables are not wide enough, so computer will not be too close with eyes… And it will be much better if more spaces between each of the computer station…So can put books, papers, purse…etc…Not enough free rooms to put stuffs on a computer station (squash)!

These comments have been shared with the Transformation team.

Library staff and a technician investigated the heating and ventilation and turned down the heat in LB-385.

Thank you for your comments.  If our library users have complaints or suggestions about specific rooms in the library, it is helpful to include the room name or number, which makes it easier and faster for us to track down the problem and try to solve it.  Also, if you include your email when you submit a comment, we can follow up with you about your experience.

Thank you.

Vanier Library – Men’s Room

We have had some comments regarding the unpleasant odour in the Men’s Washrooms at the Vanier Library.

Concordia’s Facilities Management have replied that the washrooms are cleaned nightly. They are currently looking at odour absorber solutions.

If this does not fully address the problem, plumbers will be asked to look into the issues.  Thank you for your comments.

Scent-free library?

This is my fourth and final year at Concordia, and I continue to battle the strong scents of perfume and cologne lingering in the library. The strong smells inhibit my studying and give me headaches. I don’t imagine I’m the only one with this experience. I recently spent some time at Dalhousie University in Halifax, and was thrilled to see that the school has become a ‘scent free zone’. I wonder if we could introduce the ‘scent free zone’ into the Concordia library. Thanks!

First of all, congratulations on making it to your final year!  🙂

Thank you for your email regarding this sensitive topic.  For everyone else, you can take a look at Dalhousie’s scent-free policy here.  I think it would be difficult to implement such a policy in just one area, such as the Libraries.  It would have to be university-wide, (as is the case at Dalhousie).  I searched the Concordia University website and our own Sustainable Concordia, in their Sustainable Event Guide encourages organizers to make their events scent free.
